This was a great post Samuel! It reminded me a lot about opportunity cost. I loved learning about the different types of debt, especially the untintended debt that can occur when you take shortcuts as you mentioned. Sometimes that debt is okay as well though like you said. I feel like sometimes I have impatient debt if that’s a thing lol. I just want to hurry up and get things done that it could hurt me in the long run. Gotta get better at rationalizing that lol. Have you ever had that?

Thank you for the comment!

Sure, I think everyone has such a feeling from time to time. Since most engineers work in teams, practices such as pull request reviews can be beneficial because your teammates might not share that feeling and will stop you from introducing such debt.

I also review my own pull requests before sharing them with my team, and I try to do it with "fresh eyes", like I am reviewing a PR that is not mine, and my intent is to keep the quality high.

Great post! I think we should share it with our teams haha.

People loves to refactor without calculating the impact it has to the business.

Thanks a lot for mentioning the post I wrote with Gregor. =)
